Welcome to part three of the Vegan / Plant-based / natural skincare series. In part one, we discussed the why and what of plant-based skincare and also covered the basic steps of skincare. You can read “Powerful Vegan Skincare Secrets to Transform Your Skin”. In Part Two, we discussed the natural recipes for plant-based toners and how I nourish my skin internally. You can read “Amazing Benefits of Plant-Based Skincare for Glowing Skin”.
In this post, I will share the detailed recipes and process of making my favorite face masks. I generally opt to switch them across based on the time and availability of ingredients. Also switching products is better for my skin as my skin doesn’t get used to off any particular material. I generally use a lot of leftover fruits and vegetable skins in my natural skincare routine.
Natural Skincare: DIY Vegan Skincare Recipes
First step of any good skincare routine is to get rid of dirt or any makeup on the face. I use basic oiling process generally twice a week to do the deep cleaning. On other days, i generally just run any piece of fruit like tomato, lemon, papaya etc. I just ensure that fruit i am using is very soft as hard fruit might hurt my skin.
After washing my face, neck and all the exposed skin, i like to apply some kind of face packs. I will share my favorite face packs recipe and process to apply. Process is same for almost all types of face packs. You can always make changes based on your liking and your skin type. Some ingredients might suit you and some you might need to change. I have a mixed skin which is more towards dry skin with some really oily patches. So I have to be extremely careful to apply the correct type of face packs.

Natural Skincare: DIY Face Pack Recipes
Here are the recipes of my favorite face packs, i am sharing the ones i have tried and tested for past several years and I have used them on my kid too.
Avocado Vegan Face Mask
I use this face pack almost twice a week as my partner and me love our Avocado toast in the breakfast, so i just end up taking little avocado away from breakfast and use it as my face pack.
Ingredients:
- 2-3 tablespoon of ripe avocado
- Few drops of honey
- 1 tablespoon of curd/yogurt
Instructions:
- Mash the avocado in a bowl until it’s smooth.
- Add the honey (its optional) and yogurt to the mashed avocado.
- Mix well until all ingredients are combined.
- Apply the mixture to your face, avoiding the eye area.
- Leave the mask on for 15-20 minutes.
- Rinse off with warm water and pat your face dry.
Benefits of this lovely face mask
This mask leaves my skin very hydrating and glowing. I love this face pack specially when I have leftover avocado available. This mask leaves my skin SO SMOOTH, and also very hydrated. It smooths and brightens, without any irritation.
Soothing Oatmeal Face Mask
Another one of my favorite face mask is made of oatmeal which we have quite often in the breakfast. If i am busy and don’t have time to apply, i keep little oatmeal in the fridge and use it in the evening.
Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup of rolled oats
- 2 table spoon of warm water (Or alternatively you can use cooked oatmeal just ensure that its cooked without sugar)
- 1 table spoon of honey (I have been using New Zealand Manuka honey for all my recipes both skincare and food, I always buy it from Amazon and have never been disappointed)
- 1 teaspoon of baking soda (Only if you have oily skin)

Instructions:
- Grind oats into a fine powder using a food processor or blender or if you are using soaked one, mash them
- Mix ground or mashed oats with baking soda and warm water to form a paste
- Mix honey
- Mix well until all ingredients are combined
- Apply the mixture to your face, avoiding the eye area
- Leave the mask on for 10-15 minutes
- Rinse off with warm water and pat your face dry
Benefits of this lovely face mask
An oatmeal and honey face mask provides multiple natural skincare benefits. Oatmeal helps in gentle exfoliation and soothing of the skin, while honey provides antibacterial properties, antioxidants, and deep moisturization. Baking soda helps in removing the tanning. Together, they help achieve clear, glowing,
and healthy skin by combining exfoliation, hydration, and natural healing properties. You can use this mask just as a cleanser also when in hurry. You can make a batch and store it in the fridge for 5-6 days without any issue. I use this just to wash my face and get rid of all the dirt in the nights too. Because of honey, its doesn’t dry my skin too.
Vegan Face Mask (Oatmeal and Banana)
Just by reading the title, many of you will start drooling over it. Don’t worry I am also one of them. I generally east half of it before applying on my face. This is another big advantage of vegan / plant-based / natural skincare products. you don’t have to worry about the impacts of these on your skin or health as they are not going to harm us. If its good enough to be eaten, its surely good enough to be applied on your skin.
Ingredients:
- 1/2 ripe banana
- 1 tablespoon of oatmeal
- 1 tablespoon of almond milk or any milk which you use
Instructions:
- Mash the banana in a bowl until it’s smooth.
- Add the oatmeal and almond milk to the mashed banana.
- Mix well until all ingredients are combined.
- Apply the mixture to your face, avoiding the eye area.
- Leave the mask on for 15-20 minutes.
- Rinse off with warm water and pat your face dry.

Benefits of this lovely face mask
Oatmeal works as a great exfoliant and soothes inflammation, banana is a well-known hydration agent and it also nourishes the skin with vitamins and minerals, and milk helps to cleanse and moisturize. This combination is a deadly combination for my skin as it helps to soften and brighten the skin, making it look more youthful and radiant. The biggest benefit of this face mask is that it suits perfectly for my dry skin, thanks to banana and
milk to provide the required hydration. But the only problem with this pack is at times instead of landing on my face it lands in my stomach as I love the taste of banana and milk 😊
Vegan Face Mask: Skincare for Sensitive Skin
Few of my friends have sensitive skin and I have helped to make face masks for them. They did try quite a few of them and really loved some of them too. I am suggesting only the ones which are appreciated and are being used successfully for past several years. Just a general suggestion to all the people using my recipes, it’s not necessary that every recipe will suit you. You must do a trial of all and decide based on your skin type. But at the same time, I can assure you that none of them will harm your skin as they are all made of natural products. I am sure we all take care of buying pure natural ingredients for our regular use also and in all my skincare recipes I use the regular pantry products to ensure purity.
Cooling Face Mask: Cucumber & Aloe Vera
Most of the sensitive skin people get burning sensation as soon as they apply anything on there skin. Cucumber has very cooling effect and aloe vera is very hydrating so just imagine the cool combination of both. Even though i don’t have sensitive skin but this is my go to face mask for any hot day. My speed towards this face pack is directly proportionate to the rise of temperature outside. But really jokes apart, this is one of the most soothing face mask i have tried.
Ingredients:
- 1/2 cucumber : Peeled and blended in to a fine paste
- 2 tablespoons of aloe vera gel (you can use fresh from the plant or even bought from the market, i have tried using the aloe vera gel which i bought from Amazon and it has given me perfect result)

Instructions:
- Peel and blend the cucumber until smooth.
- In a bowl, combine the blended cucumber and aloe vera gel.
- Mix well until all ingredients are combined. The paste has to be really smooth and must feel like cream.
- Apply the mixture to your face, neck, avoiding the eye area. I even apply this to my hands too.
- Leave the mask on for 15-20 minutes.
- Rinse off with cool water and pat your face dry.
Benefits of this lovely face mask
A cucumber and aloe vera face mask has a cooling effect on sensitive skin due to its soothing and hydrating properties. Cucumber helps to cool and reduce skin irritation, while aloe vera provides deep hydration and anti-inflammatory benefits. This combination helps to calm redness and replenish moisture, leaving the skin feeling refreshed and rejuvenated.
Natural skincare: Yogurt, Papaya, and Tomato Brightening Mask
This is one of my favorite masks which is suitable for all skin types, especially for sensitive skin types. Most of my friends have tried this as this is one of their favorites too. I also like to add a pinch of turmeric as it’s a natural antibiotic and also helps in removing the tan. Adding turmeric is completely optional.
Least time Consuming Recipe: Rosewater and Aloe Vera Mask
This one is my favorite whenever i am in hurry. It hardly takes any time to prepare and cleanse and hydrate my face in no time. I generally use fresh aloe vera gel from my garden but at times specially when in hurry, i do use the aloe vera gel which i buy from Amazon and it works perfectly with both.
Ingredients:
- 2 tablespoons rosewater
- 2 tablespoons fresh aloe vera gel

Instructions:
- Mix the rosewater and aloe vera gel very well until the mixtures has creamy consistency. It generally takes 2-3 minutes of whisking.

Conclusion
Using natural skincare recipes in your beauty routine will improve your skin’s health and radiance and it will also help in towards your contribution to a more sustainable lifestyle. You can use the recipes provided in this post as a start toward your natural skincare routine. I have tried to provide face mask recipes for normal skin, sensitive skin, and also for dry skin. You can mix and match more ingredients based on your skin type, need, and availability of ingredients at your home.
Mostly even if you don’t have time to make any face mask and sit for 15-20 minutes, you can just rub the extract of any fruit like tomato, lemon papaya, banana, or avocado on your face for a few minutes and wash it off with tap water. This will also help in removing all dirt and locking in the moisture in your skin.
By choosing natural ingredients, you avoid the harsh chemicals often found in commercial skincare products, reducing the risk of irritation and adverse reactions. Ingredients like avocado, papaya, aloe vera, and oats are not only effective but also gentle on the skin, making these recipes ideal for various skin types, including sensitive skin.
Moreover, you don’t need to buy anything for these face masks. Almost all the ingredients are available in almost all the pantries. This way we are also helping by reducing packaging waste, transportation costs, and pollution. Put together, we are taking a step towards more sustainable, eco-friendly living. Bonanza, while saving the environment, we are helping our skin and instead of harming it with chemical products, we are protecting and nourishing it with more vitamins and minerals.
Just one thing I would like to mention don’t expect overnight magic, it takes time and consistency is the key. Do this regularly for 6 months to a year and you will start seeing the magic, it’s just like healthy eating and exercising. It takes time to see the results, so don’t hurry and give up half the way.
