5 Must-Try DIY Bath Products for an Amazing Spa Day at Home

I love my spa time, but I rarely get time to do that. It needs a dedicated effort to book the appointment, drive there, and come back. So when someone suggested that I could easily convert my home into a beautiful spa with DIY bath products made from natural ingredients, I went all in for it.

For the past few years, I’ve been enjoying monthly spa sessions right at home. While I’d love to indulge more frequently, balancing a job, raising kids, and managing household chores makes it challenging to find the time. But I try to do it at least once a month and it’s peaceful and an amazing experience.

All my bath products are crafted from natural ingredients, many of which come straight from my pantry. This ensures they are gentle on my skin and free from harmful chemicals. I have perfected these recipes through several trials and errors and now I can practically make them in my sleep too 😊. This DIY approach has not only made my at-home spa days possible but also incredibly rewarding.

Let me straight get in the several of my personally curated recipes for amazing bath experience. These homemade bath bombs are made specially for relaxation and stress relief.

DIY Bath Products: Bath Bombs, an Essential for Spa Experience

If you love spa experience, I am sure you would appreciate a good bath bomb. It actually gives you an amazing relaxing and clean feeling at the same time. Bath bombs makes the waster itself a cleaning agent which helps in removing dead skin and act as a natural cleanser.

DIY Bath Products: Make your home feel like Spa

Several of my friend have been suggesting to start selling them but I don’t have patience or time to do it at the large scale. If you are on creative side and have little extra time, this can be an excellent side hustle. I have seen several people selling these on etsy or other online stores. But always ensure to sell or gift the products only after trying it on yourself as I believe in giving the best stuff to everyone, so all trials are always on me (I have been lucky that most of my trials are successful).

One suggestion before we start the recipes, always ensure to buy organic, chemical-free products only. You can buy from your trusted local vendor or Amazon. I am providing links to the products which I generally buy from Amazon. If you want, you can use them but if you have any other vendor and you can be sure of its authenticity, go ahead and buy from them.

  • 1/2 cup citric acid
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch
  • 1/4 cup Epsom salts – This acts as a cleaning agent and binding for bath bomb
  • 2 tsp lavender essential oil – Must add for relaxation
  • 2 tsp chamomile essential oil – Must add for relaxation and amazing smell
  • 3 tbsp coconut oil (melted) – Must add for moisture
  • Dried lavender and chamomile flowers: It’s a must for me to get the feel-good factor
  • Witch hazel (in a spray bottle): It’s an astringent that is often used as a natural topical remedy. It contains several compounds with potent anti-inflammatory and antiviral properties, which may be useful in treating a variety of conditions ranging from acne and several other skin issues.
    • Recipe to make Witch hazel: Boil 4 cups (1 qt) of water and when it begins to roll, dump in 3/4 cup witch hazel bark (You can get this from any local vendor). Let it boil for ten minutes, then pour it into a glass jar (avoid using plastic jars). Let it sit overnight (about 8 hours), then strain the bark out.

DIY Bath Products: Peppermint and Eucalyptus Bath Bombs

Peppermint and eucalyptus have been used for hundreds of years in human history for their invigorating and refreshing scents. A combination of these can help boost energy levels and rejuvenate the mind. Eucalyptus oil is particularly effective in providing respiratory relief by clearing sinuses and easing breathing, making these bath bombs useful for those with colds or allergies. Even several doctors recommend to use of eucalyptus oil massage during colds.

Both of these oils also have inflammatory properties which help soothe sore muscles and reduce pain, making them ideal for post-workout relaxation. I have recently started trekking mountains and this is what I use post coming down. Even during climbing I keep mix of these oils in a small travel bottle and keep massaging my sore muscles to help me to reach the summit. I have just started trekking and in the past few months, I have done around 5 climbs, and the highest point covered is 1400m. It’s an amazing feeling to reach the summit but while climbing I climb with high adrenalin and my muscles start to pain while coming down and these oils only help me to come down 😊. There is no other way, once you go up, you have to come down (First and basic rule of mountains).

I use this bath bomb just in a bucket full of water to soak your legs specially after my hiking as I don’t have access to bath tub at the base location. Just 20 minutes of soaking my legs and I feel quite fresh. Now days after looking at experience of these bath bombs, few of my friends have also started asking to use these after treks. They are even asking me to make more and start selling them. I am yet to do the selling part as I love to make these products and gift to my friends.

DIY Bath Products: Oatmeal and Honey Bath Bombs

As I have explained in my other natural skincare post, oatmeal is one of the best products for its gentle exfoliation properties and also it helps in soothing my irritated skin especially after tending to my flowers or doing crazy grass cutting in my garden with my partner. Honey is always good for its moisturizing properties. Both oatmeal and honey are more or less common products in skincare products.

Both oatmeal and honey have anti-inflammatory properties, reducing redness and swelling, I used them in several forms almost daily. I try my best to get organic oatmeal which is produced at the nearest place to avoid the transportation. I have been using New Zealand Manuka honey for the past several years and I do buy this from Amazon and I am very happy with this product. I use the same honey for my food too.

At times when I am running short of time, I just mix oatmeal, honey with little witch hazel if its available or with little water or milk and soak it for few minutes and just scrub my face and neck with it. It really feels very refreshing and skin feel rejuvenated. This is my secret homemade treatment for glowing skin.

I try my best to use very affordable products in my natural eco-friendly recipes. Another way to reduce cost and make it more environmental friendly is to make them together with friends.

I generally get my stuff in bulk from Amazon or from local vendor depending on the availability and make almost all my skincare, bath products at home. This not only gives me satisfaction but also it contribute towards my sustainable living objective in life. As i am not buying products from the market, it helps in reducing the waste in terms of packaging, transportation and it also ensures what touches my skin. I can also customize as per my needs.

My sincere request to all readers is that you might buy or not buy products from Amazon but just do give these DIY Bath Products a try and let me know if you make any changes to suit your skin type. This will not only help your skin but will also help you to destress. You can involve kids in making these DIY Bath Products as they can also enjoy as there are no chemicals. My kid loves to make and use almost all my natural skin care products. As she is still quite young, I have to be extremely careful to use only organic and natural products in all my recipes.
